They're koi fish. They're big and shiny and white with orange patches. They look like they have little maps drawn on them. [ because of the shape of the patches! ]

I think that's a very poetic way to describe it.

[ he clears his throat, and then recites, in a very lovely, poetic, exaggerated tone - ]
